Carpet Protective Film Installation Guide
1. Preparation
First, confirm that the film specifications match the carpet size. Prepare a clean microfiber cloth, scraper, and cutting tool. Choose a dry and well-ventilated environment for installation. Avoid humid weather to prevent moisture from forming on the film, which may affect adhesion.
- Clear any obstructions around the installation area in advance
- Ensure ample space for installation operations
- Check that all tools are in good working condition
2. Clean the Carpet Surface
Vacuum thoroughly to remove dust, hair, and debris from the carpet. Gently wipe stubborn stains with a neutral detergent, then pat dry with a dry cloth. Allow the carpet to dry completely before proceeding.
- Ensure the carpet surface is free of any impurities
- Impurities may form ridges under the film after installation
- Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could damage the carpet
3. Cut the Protective Film
Unroll the protective film on a flat surface according to the carpet's dimensions. Mark the cutting line according to the measured dimensions. Use a sharp cutting tool to cut along the marked line, ensuring a clean edge.
- If splicing is required, allow a small amount of overlap
- Overlap should be sufficient to ensure a tight fit without warping
- Avoid excessive gaps that could reduce protective effectiveness
- Check the cut edges for smoothness and evenness
4. Laying Techniques
Start laying the carpet from one end. First, peel back the adhesive on the edge of the protective film. Gently press the film against the edge of the carpet. Use a scraper to slowly push from the joint toward the other end to expel air from underneath the film.
- Ensure there are no bubbles or wrinkles in the film
- Maintain even pressure while pressing the film down
- At corners, slightly stretch the film and then press firmly
- Work slowly to ensure a smooth and even application
5. Edge Preparation
After laying, check the edges for a complete fit. Press down any areas that are slightly warped with a scraper repeatedly. You can also place a heavy object over the edge and let it sit for a while to ensure a secure bond.
- If bubbles appear, gently puncture them with a needle tip
- Use a scraper to squeeze out the air and press firmly
- Ensure all edges are flat and free of warping
- This enhances the durability and effectiveness of the protective film
