How to detect the quality of plastic packaging film

2025-04-14

The quality of plastic packaging film can be detected from the following aspects:
1. Appearance inspection
Under natural light or light, observe whether the surface of the film is flat and smooth, and whether there are defects such as bubbles, impurities, scratches, wrinkles, etc. The surface of high-quality film should be uniform and consistent, without obvious defects. At the same time, check whether the color of the film is uniform, whether there is color difference, and the color should be natural and uniform.
2. Thickness detection
Use a thickness gauge to measure multiple points of different parts of the film to determine whether its thickness meets the specified requirements and whether the thickness deviation is within the allowable range. Generally speaking, the better the uniformity of the film thickness, the more stable its performance and the higher the quality.
3. Physical property detection
Tensile performance: The film is subjected to a tensile test by a tensile testing machine to measure its tensile strength, elongation at break and other indicators. High tensile strength indicates that the film has strong tensile resistance and is not easy to break; high elongation at break indicates that the film has good flexibility and can withstand a certain degree of deformation without breaking during use.
Heat sealing performance: Use a heat sealer to perform a heat sealing test on the film to test the heat sealing strength. High-quality films should be able to form a firm seal under appropriate heat sealing conditions, and the heat seal should not be easily torn or leak.
Barrier performance: including barrier properties to oxygen, water vapor, etc. Professional gas permeability testers and water vapor permeability testers can be used for testing. Good barrier properties help to extend the shelf life of packaged products and prevent products from being damp and oxidized.
4. Chemical performance testing
Chemical analysis methods are used to detect whether the film contains harmful substances, such as heavy metals, plasticizers, and residual solvents. Instruments such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) can be used for accurate testing. Films that meet relevant safety standards and have low content of harmful substances are of better quality.
5. Optical performance testing
For plastic packaging films with transparency requirements, their transmittance and haze need to be tested. High transmittance indicates that the film has good transparency and can clearly display the packaged product; low haze means that the film has good optical uniformity and good visual effect. It can be measured using a transmittance haze tester.
